Acupuncture for Accident Recovery

ICBC Approved
Oak Bay Victoria BC

Acupuncture can aid in recovery from the stress, PTSD, pinched nerves, and pain of vehicle accidents. I offer direct billing for ICBC injury claims.

Recovering from a vehicle accident?

No one wants to be in a car crash. You had other plans for this week and suddenly you are filling out paperwork, while navigating websites or phone directories. And while you’re in pain, cannot sleep, and possibly reliving the accident over and over, you are also trying to get x-rays, doctor or specialist appointments, and medications. The list goes on and on. It’s an understatement to say it’s a stressful time.

You may be looking for acupuncture, chiropractic, counselling, kinesiology, massage, or physiotherapy providers who direct bill to ICBC. Acupuncture is pre-approved for 12 treatments during the first 12 weeks following an accident.

How acupuncture can help

Acupuncture is a good place for a lot of people to start. An acupuncturist can treat an injury by applying needles to your scalp, ear, or shoulder, so you can get relief even when the injury site hurts to touch.

A Traditional Chinese Medicine intake reviews not only your muscle health, joint, nerve health, but also your sleep, digestion, appetite, and mood — all of which can be thrown off by a vehicle collision.

What to Expect

Our initial appointment involves an in-depth assessment.

  • We review how your body usually functions and the differences after the collision.
    • How were you feeling before?
    • Immediately after?
    • 12-72 hours later?
  • We review the medications, supplements, stretches, and home care (ice packs, heat) you have already tried.
  • We ensure you have some time on the treatment table, so you know how you respond to acupuncture right now.
  • Finally, we review your sleeping, working, and resting positions to minimize pain and help you function at your best between appointments.

For followup appointments, we frequently add electroacupuncture, cupping and massage.

I direct bill to ICBC for the 12 appointments for which you are pre-approved.

If you are seeing improvement with treatment, but are one of the statistically few who need more than 12 week of support, I continue to submit paperwork on your behalf to ICBC.

Getting Started

After you contact ICBC to report the collision, they will provide you with a claim number, which I will use to bill ICBC directly.

Self Care Tips while dealing with an ICBC Injury Claim

  • Keep a detailed record of everything said to ICBC, healthcare providers, and other relevant parties. It makes things a lot clearer and easier, if you are still dealing with it two months in the future.
  • Reduce your commitments for a while. Ask family and friends for help. Take it easy with exercise — even yoga. If finances allow, pick up a few vegetable-rich premade meals, so you don’t have to cook.
  • Try not to dwell on your claim or injuries, and still spend time with low-key people and activities you enjoy. This too shall pass.
